内容 This is Part V of my work on degree theory and its applications. In 9.2,properties of the Euler characteristic of boundaryless manifolds are discussed. In 9.3 and 9.4,we extend the concept to arbitrary smooth manifolds, possibly with boundary and the celebrated Poincare-Hopf theorem is proved. The proof which seems to be new is a simple adaptation of the argument in the boundaryless case. In 9.5,the relationship between the two Euler Characteristics, i.e., the one of the manifold with boundary and the other of its boundary, is derived.
