内容 研究概要:Mitochondria possess a variety of ion channels in both, inner and outer membrane in order to fulfill their tasks in metabolism. Several of these ion channels as the heat shock proteins TIM or TOM seem to have no similar counterpart in the plasma membrane while others as VDAC or K_<ATP>-channel have. Progress has been made to describe the different ion channels in mitochondria by introducing the powerful patch-clamp techniques to this field of research though the picture seems far from being complete and further channels may be found. A key role will be played by yeast mitochondria due to the importance of yeast cells as an expression system. The function of most of the channels described so far is not understood in detail, however, transmission of metabolites, protein import, volume regulation, activation of apoptosis, and temperature regulation may be some of them."
