内容 The wave forms of the organ discharge of Raja sp., a species of Rajidae were studied. A specimen of Raja sp., which was about 43 cm in length, was fixed on to a wooden plate, and silver plate-electrodes (3×8 cm) were placed in two positions on the dorsal or ventral side of its tail. The discharge induced by mechanical stimulus given to the head by means of a glass rod was led to and recorded on a Braun tube oscillograph and the following results were obtained : 1. The discharge voltage induced by each stimulus was very small, i.e., about 1 to 7mv. Polyphasic and monophasic responses were observed. 2. As a normal pattern, a complicated polyphasic discharge of several millivolts continued for approx. 100 to 200 msec directly after the stimulus was administered and subsequent monophasic discharge of approx. 1 mv and 10 to 20 msec in duration appeared once or twice, or, in the case of a higher frequency, 5 to 6 times at intervals of 70 to 80 msec. 3. As for the small monophasic discharge appearing subsequent to the polyphasic discharge as mentioned in par. 2 above, it may appear singly or in pairs. In these monophasic discharges, no such secondary discharge as can normally be seen in the case of Narke was observed. 4. Besides the above-mentioned pattern of discharge, a single irregular and Tetanus-shaped discharge wave form was observed for every stimulus. The duration of this form of discharge wave was approx. 60〜100 msec, with 10 to 15 small waves on the wave form. 5. In the case of spontaneous discharge, polyphasic discharge of several millivolts continued for up to 2 seconds. 6. Polyphasic discharge and Tetanus-shaped monophasic discharge are considered to be the summation of excitation in various parts of the electric organ. Synchronous electric organ discharge, which has been observed in Electrophorus and Narke, was not seen in Raja. 7.
