内容 Since 1969, we have studied the geological structure and the underground water of Oga district, Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, and the results obtained are summarized as follow : (1) Distribution of the Alluvium ; the Kagamigaura formation (Pliocene) and the Nishizaki formation (Miocene). The Nishizaki formation is widely distributed to the southern part ofthe Kagana fault (from Oga to Miyagi). However, in the area between Kou Okamiyagi and Oga-Miyagi lines, the Nishizaki formation is covered with theAllubium. In the northern part of the Kagana fault, the Kagamigaura formation is distributed. The Kagamigaura formation is thicker in the northern part than in the southern part. (2) The features of the p-a curved lines of each formation. In the Alluvium, the p-a curved lines are inclined to rise slightly or to remain on the same level. In the Kagamigaura formation, the p-a curved lines are inclined to decline slightly or to remain on the same level. However, those lines show rugged curves in part. In the Nishizaki formation, the p-a curved lines are inclined to decline sharply, and those lines show smooth curves. (3) Preservation of underground water. The Alluvium is composed of unconsolidated sandy sediments, and the Nishizaki formation is covered with the Alluvium. So the Alluvium provides much underground water. Most of shallow wells draw up underground water form this formation. The Kagamigaura formation is composed of tuffaceous coarse sandstone, and this formation provides much underground water. Most of deep wells draw up water from this formation. There are many reservoirs providing surface water in this region.
