内容 花壇草花の草型, 生育型, 開花に及ぼす栽植密度の影響花壇は生態学的にいう"人工群落"であるので, それを構成する花壇材料の草型(草姿), 生育型, 開花性状また集団(群落)としてみた全体の型状は花壇効果に重要である.この点より本実験はフレンチ・マリーゴールドを用いて花壇の基本的要因である栽植密度を変えて, これが草型, 生育型, 開花状態に及ぼす影響を調査した.これらの性状は栽植密度により非常に影響された.すなわち草型は高密度区ではT型(下部分枝が少ない型), 中・低密度区ではV-, U型(下部分枝が多い型)となった.花壇構成を立体的に表わした6, 7図によると花は高密度区では上層のみ, 中・低密度区では中〜上層に分布した.植物各器官の分布は高密度区では生育につれて茎部が多くなり花部が減じた.以上より長期の花壇美形成には草型は下方分枝型であるU-, V-型が好ましく, したがってその植物の最高被度を考慮に入れれば, 栽植密度をできるだけ減じることが望ましい.

The growth pattern, plant form and flowering habits of individuals, and the development of plant community in a flower bed with French marigold, grown in various square spacings, were studied from Arpril to November in 1963. The plant form and plant community structure in the flower bed were shown by diagrammatical ways in this paper. The top growth and plant form of plants were greatly affected by planting density and there seemed to be 3 basic patterns of plant form: T-, V- and U-types, depending on the planting density and growing season. In a low degree of competition among individuals the plant form was U- or V-type and in a high degree it became T-type. In the earlier stages of growth irrespective of density or in plants grown at the wider spacings, their flowers were distributed from the middle to upper layers of plants. As the growth progressed or in plants grown at the narrower spacings, their flowers were produced in the upper layers or in only a top layer. In view of the study presented here it can be suggested that the maintenance of plant form in U- or V-types as long as possible throughout the season may be favorable for one continuous emphatic display of form and color in bedding masses.
