In northeastern Thailand, the forest land is being destroyed at a rapid rate. The reforstation project was started in 1967 by the government and so-called Forest Villages were estabished. Its objective was to settle farmers who have engaged in the shifting cultivation in these area. Questionnaire was conducted to reveal the crop cultivation activity of the forest village members at Somdet Reforestation Section, Kalasin located in the middle part of northeastern region of Thailand. Crop cultivation activity was more economically important than reforestation activity for the inhabitasts of these forest villages members. Cassava (Manihot esculenta C.) was the main cash crop and was cultivated widely in the fields both under the forest and outside the forest. This agroforesty system must be changed to a more complex system for their sustainable agroforestry and other kinds of crops must be introduced to the system.
