内容 This study compared the cost and input proportion of milk production between Japan and United States of America (New York state, NY), and analysed the production structure, economy of scale and technical changes from 1979 through 1988 by using the Cobb-Douglas production function. The results showed; 1) The average cost per 100kg milk was less in NY than in Japan. The proportion of non-fixed capital input such as labor and feed was more but the proportion of fixed capital input such as machinery, building and equipment was less in Japan than that in NY. 2) The production elasticity of fixed capital input in Japan was lower but that of both labor and feed was higher than that in NY respectively. 3) The marginal productivity of labor was lower in Japan than that in NY. 4) The scale merit existed in both Japan and NY. That of Japan was more large, especially in Hokkaido. 5) Technicai progress was occurred during this period in both Japan and NY, of them range in NY was bigger.
