内容 Effect of different fertilizers as well as restrictions of root zone and percolation on methane emission from wet Andosol were studied at Kashiwa Experimental Farm of Chiba University to evaluate if a pot experiment may estimate an actual methane release from a paddy field. Nitrogen fertilizer application enhanced total methane emission from the paddy field 1.8 times, while rice straw amendment increased methane emission seven times. However, no significant difference in methane emission was found between slow release (coated urea) and fast release (compound fertilizer) nitrogen sources. In the pot experiment to see the effect of restriction of percolation, removing the bottom of plastic pots which were buried in the field reduced methane flux. However, the total methane emission from the pot plots were 45-1.977661e+00ss than that from the field. These results indicate that limiting water percolation increased methane emission whereas restriction of root growth decreased methane emission. Therefore it is suggested that only the seasonal pattern of methane emission from paddy fields could be estimated from pot experiments, but not the total amounts of emission.
