内容 This study first surveys the actual condition where elementary school English is taught in Japanese pubic schools. Next this paper presents the results of a large-scale survey with 764 students participating conducted at an elementary school attached to a national university. The survey comprises two parts: the first part asks students' general views on English and English study; the second part tests the students' abilities in the comprehension of some English words, in which a listening test is included. Some interesting facts were revealed. Lastly, the authors discuss some possible future directions Japanese elementary school English could take in relation to "integrated study" in the Japanese elementary school curriculum.
